Cryolipolysis (CoolSculpting); non-surgical fat reduction

Coolsculpting or Cryolipolysis is just what you are looking for if you want to shed your stubborn fat from your body without surgery.

Sometimes, no matter how intense the workout or how strict the diet is, one can’t seem to ditch that stubborn fat. Many have certain trouble areas where the flab builds up and doesn’t shed, despite their efforts.

What is CoolSculpting or Cryolipolysis?

CoolSculpting is a cosmetic treatment to remove areas of body fat. The procedure involves freezing the fat cells from specific parts of the body.

Cryolipolysis is also called Cryo sculpting because the procedure selectively reduces fat deposits with localized controlled cooling.

This FDA-cleared non-surgical fat reduction procedure involves freezing fat cells to the destruction that don’t respond to traditional exercise and diets. This procedure is non-invasive, meaning no surgery is required, making it the best non-surgical alternative for liposuction.

CoolSculpting is done to target areas of the body where it is more difficult to remove fat, similar to liposuction.

Non surgical fat reduction before after

An applicator is used to cool the fat cells in the targeted area of your body for a simple, natural fat removal process.

It is based on the finding that fat cells beneath the skin are naturally more vulnerable to the effects of cold than the other surrounding tissues.

CoolSculpting has many benefits as it is non-surgical, non-invasive, and requires no recovery time, effectively reducing fat cells in the treatment area.

This procedure is designed for people who want to get rid of stubborn fat in specific body spots and is not a weight-loss method as it is meant for people within 30 pounds of recommended body weight.

How does Coolsculpting work?

On freezing the fat cells, the cells program themselves to self-destruct naturally. It is accomplished using a vacuum with round paddles in different sizes to suction the skin and fat, pulling the fat away from the body between two cooling plates.

The fat is frozen to a precise temperature for one to two hours in this procedure. The other cells, such as skin, blood vessels, and nerves, are not damaged at this temperature.

The treatment session is so relaxed that you can nap while the machine goes to work. The whole process usually takes two or more hours to perform, depending on the size of the area being treated.

Its principle relies on controlled cooling to near -4 Celsius for the non-invasive localized reduction of fat deposits to reshape body contours.

The exposure to cooling is set so that it causes cell death of subcutaneous fat tissue without apparent damage to the overlying skin.

The treated fat cells are removed via natural metabolic processes within the body, similar to how fat from food is removed.

Cryolipolysis is the first fat removal system where research has shown fat reduction on a lasting or permanent basis. Moreover, it’s safe and known to have a high success rate. The procedure has fewer side effects than other procedures, such as liposuction.

1 Fat bulges stomach Some stubborn fat bulges are immune to diet and exercise.
2 Fat cell apoptosis Cryolipolysis targets and cools fat cells to temperatures that trigger fat cell apoptosis.
3 Lipids crystalises No damage to nerves or other tissues because lipids in fat crystallize at a warmer temperature than water in other cell types.
4 Fat cells apoptotic death Following treatment, fat cells enter an apoptotic death sequence and are gradually removed in the next few weeks and months by the immune system.
5 Fat layer reduced Fat layer thickness significantly reduced.
6 Non surgical fat reduction complete Fat layer reduction in targeted area leads to an improvement in flank appearance.

What areas does Cryolipolysis best work on?

We first evaluate to see which areas of the body will provide the most desirable outcome.

The most commonly treated areas include the abdomen, arms, outer hips, inner and outer thighs, muffin top area, back, bra fat, and even small areas like the double chin.

Who are the ideal candidates for CoolSculpting?

Some people make better candidates for the procedure than others. Here are a few signs to know whether Cryolipolysis might be the right option for you:

  • The ideal candidates are those that eat a healthy diet and exercise.
  • Those who are near their weight loss goals
  • Those who are generally healthy
  • Women who are not pregnant or thinking about pregnancy
  • Those who have enough pinchable fat
  • People with realistic expectations

Cryolipolysis can also be used in curvier patients to reduce the fat but only as part of a weight loss.

The fat reduction treatment

The procedure is preferably done on an empty stomach, 2 or 3 hours after food. No other preparation is necessary, and it is an outpatient procedure.

The treatment is performed by first selecting the appropriate probe based on the anatomic location being treated.

The patient will be asked to lie down, and the area to be treated is covered with an antifreeze gel sheet. The probe is then applied, and the skin and fat fold are brought into the suction head.

After the skin and fat layer is cured, the temperature is dropped sufficiently to freeze the fat. The temperature used will vary from -2C to -6C. One can treat two body areas simultaneously. There is no pain or discomfort during the procedure.

The patient can resume their activities immediately. The subsequent treatment is usually done after two months.

Is Cryolipolysis permanent?

Cryolipolysis is a permanent fat reduction technology, but the patient has to control their weight post-procedure as long-lasting improvements to the body can only occur by changing to a healthier lifestyle, nutrition and exercise.

For better results, the procedure should be done under the supervision of a skilled Dermatologist with multiple treatment cycles.

Is CoolSculpting safe?

Since this is a non-invasive procedure, the risks, comparatively speaking, are very low. The patients can return to their normal activities following the procedure.

There are potential side effects, such as bruising, swelling, temporary redness, cramping, or stinging in the treated areas, but this is generally mild and doesn’t last long.

The body slowly removes the dead fat over three months. Hence results will be visible over a period. During this period, the patient can expect some amount of pain and altered sensations.

How is the frozen fat eliminated?

The frozen fat cells that become crystallized, then die are naturally processed and eliminated by your body.

When will the results be visible?

While results may vary from person to person, the patient may start seeing changes in their body as quickly as three weeks after the treatment. The most dramatic results are usually visible after two months as the body flushes out the dead fat cells.
