Menopause –An inevitable change that not only you, but every middle aged woman experiences for the rest of her life. It affects your physique and turn your skin oily than before; effect of testosterone, this may even result in growth of thick hairs over your chin. During menopause, development of lower levels of oestrogen makes you prone to thinning, sagging & wrinkling. Your body stops producing collagen –proteins that revitalize your skin – resulting in loss of skin elasticity.
That, combined with dryness caused by hormonal changes, can cause sagging — especially around your neck, jaw line, and cheeks — and fine lines and wrinkles. The lines and wrinkles you get with menopause are often crow’s feet and lines above the upper lip.
If you think this is the end of world, believe us, IT’S NOT, follow the instructions given below and save yourself from the menopausal effects.
Cleanse frequently: As you get older and your skin gets drier, your skin especially can benefit from extra moisture. The key is using a cleanser that’s right for drier skin.
Cool way to look slimmer !

Summer hair care
Sun’s heat and UV rays can affect your hair just like it affects your skin. Although you can not feel the damage as easily as you can see it on the skin ,hair is getting a beating from the sun and the wind.So we need to take measures to protect our hair during summer. Too much exposure to UV rays can break down the proteins in hair, making it dull and brittle .The sun’s heat can dry out your hair ,so apply a deep conditioning mask to add moisture .UV rays can also damage the hair follicle ,so use a leave –in conditioner with UV filters .Keep up with trimmimg the ends regularly especially if you have long hair.It will help to stop split ends from moving further up the strand. Pony tails and plats are a good option in summer as there is no part and the scalp is protected. But if you have a distinct part in your hair ,apply a sunscreen like a translucent powder to avoid sunburn and peeling. Your hair colour will fade faster if you are in the sun too long. The best way to protect your hair colour is to use a shampoo and conditioner specifically for colour treated hair .These products work best when you lather hair only once ,rinse thoroughly, and avoid hot water. Use a clarifying shampoo once a week or whenever necessary to remove all the build up on the scalp from sunscreens .
There are some products which are not just good for the hair. Putting baby oil to attract the sun, using activated hair lighteners ,and even lemon juice can cause irreversible damage and breakage. Protect your hair from wind by tying your hair and old ways like using a hat or scarf goes a long way in avoiding the physical damage by the sun and the wind.Be sure to get plenty of omega -3 rich proteins like salmon ,egg, nuts, leafy veggies and whole grains.

HAIR TRANSPLANTS, NOT JUST FOR MEN!
Do you know? On an average human scalp bears 1 lakh hairs and most people lose anywhere from 50 – 100 strands each day .On the days when the scalp is washed, people can lose upto 250 strands.Hair grows in 3 different cycles : anagen, catagen and telogen.About 90 % of the hair on the head is in the anagen or growth phase.10 % of the hairs will be shedding.
What causes hair loss?
The common causes are:
1.Heredity – inherited hair loss is called male pattern or female pattern hair loss.
2.Stress – physical or mental (surgery, delivery ,acute illness)
3.Medication – chemotherapy
4.Physical trauma – curling irons, tight braids or ponytails.
5.Age
6. Poor diet – not enough protein or iron.
7.Other illnesses – thyroid disorders,fungal infections,scalp disorders.
Who will benefit from hair transplant?
The best candidates are those who have common male pattern or female pattern baldness. With inherited hair loss, men usually get bald spots around the forehead or on the top of the head, while women have some thinning all over the scalp, but mostly on the top of the head.Typically, each time a normal hair follicle is shed, it is replaced by hair that is equal in size. But in women with female-pattern hair loss, the new hair is finer and thinner – a more miniaturized version of itself.. The hair follicles shrink and eventually they quit growing altogether.
What Is a Hair Transplant?
Hair transplantation is a surgery that involves removing a narrow strip of hair-bearing scalp from the back of the head and using it to fill an area with thin or no hair. Most hair transplants are performed in the doctor’s office under local anesthesia.
To transplant hair, the doctor first cleans the scalp, then injects an anesthetic to numb the area where a 3- to 4-inch strip of scalp will be removed. After removing the strip of scalp with a scalpel, the doctor sets it aside and sews the scalp closed. This area is immediately hidden by the hair around it.
Next, the surgeon divides the strip of removed scalp into approximately 500 to 2,000 tiny grafts containing an individual hair or just a few hairs each. The number and type of graft used depends on the hair type, quality, and color as well as the size of the area where it will be transplanted.
After the grafts are prepared, the doctor cleans and numbs the area where the hair will be placed, delicately places each graftusing an implanter.Depending on the extent of the procedure, the transplant will take approximately four to eight hours. Sometimes additional sessions are needed if you continue to lose hair or decide you want thicker hair.
There are different techniques of grafting the hair follicle, like mini grafting ,micro grafting, follicular unit grafting..FUE(FOLLICULAR UNIT EXTRACTION) is a technique where instead of taking a strip of skin the donor hairs are punched out without actually cutting it.The advantage of this procedure is that there wont be any visible scar at the donor site..But this procedure is more time consuming and expensive.
After hair transplant surgery, your scalp may be tender. You may need to take pain medications for few days. Your doctor will have you wear a surgical dressing over the scalp for at least a day or two. Most people are able to return to work two to five days after surgery.
Within two to three weeks after surgery, the transplanted hair will fall out, but you should start to notice new growth within a few months. Most people will have attained 60% of new hair growth after six to nine months.
If you are bothered by thinning hair or balding, hair transplantation can significantly improve your appearance and self-confidence. However, it is important to understand that hair – transplantation is not a treatment for hair fall.. It does not create new hair.To minimize the risks and improve the success of surgery, it is important to undergo hair transplantation only if you are healthy. You should always discuss the potential risks and benefits of any surgery with your doctor.

Ageing of Skin
Human skin, like the other organs, undergoes chronological ageing. Skin ageing is influenced by the environment eg: sun exposure and life style factors like cigarette smoking, alcohol consumption, low body mass index and menopausal status. Atmospheric pollution and psychological stress are among other factors.
Ageing of the skin can be intrinsic and extrinsic. Intrinsic ageing is a naturally occurring process due to slow, but progressive and irreversible tissue degeneration. Genetic mutations and decreased levels of several hormones and cellular ageing contribute to this. Extrinsic ageing (photoageing) occurs due to UV and infrared radiation and physical factors(cold/ wind) Chronic UV exposure is the most potent environmental factor for ageing. Extrinsic ageing amplifies the changes associated with intrinsic skin ageing. Ageing affects the skin function and appearance. This leads to a low self esteem and poor social well being.
When does our skin start to age?
Ageing of the skin is different in each individual case. However, in our mid 20’s the skin’s ability to retain water starts to decrease. Most serious signs of ageing starts in 30’s and worsens gradually over the decades.
What are the signs of ageing?
Dryness of the skin, fine lines and wrinkles, sagging, prominent blood vesssels(telangiectasia)
blotchy pigmentation, freckles, lentigenes, harmless growths like skin tags, seborrhoeic keratoses
Care of ageing skin
Protection of the face from the sun is always important, and particularly in summer. Avoid outdoor activities during the middle of the day.
Do not smoke. Smoking increases facial lines and wrinkles, delays skin healing and is also bad for you. Exercise is good for the skin as well as for your general health.
Sunscreens should be applied daily on the face, more often when outdoors. Cover up when outside – sunscreens may protect against UVB but they are not effective against longer wavelengths.
Moisturisers can be used to smoothen the skin if it is dry and flaky.
Take plenty of exercise – active people appear younger. Eat a healthy diet with plenty of fruit and vegetables to provide natural antioxidants.
Consider treatments that rejuvenate aged skin. Consult a dermatologist for expert advice.
Alpha-hydroxy acids, vitamin-C, lipoic acid or retinoid creams applied regularly in the long term may reduce the number of fine wrinkles and fade blotchy pigmentation. In postmenopausal women a cream containing progesterone may improve skin elasticity and firmness.
Collagen, hyaluronic acid, polytetrafluoroethylene implants (dermal fillers) and fat grafts can disguise facial expression lines. They are given as injections.
Botulinum toxin injections are used to reduce frowning/look and lessen deep furrows near the eyes ,on the forehead and neck lines.
Resurfacing procedures such as dermabrasion, chemical peels, fractional laser treatment and laser resurfacing remove the top layer of damaged skin, which is replaced by new healthy cells.Pulsed dye laser helps to reduce the wrinkles around the eyes .
Vascular laser treatment can reduce unsightly facial veins and angiomas.
Thread veins on the legs can be treated by injections (sclerotherapy).
Radio frequency device(Thermage) is another useful tool to tighten, smoothen and contour the aged skin. This is a noninvasive method to turn back the clock.
