Cryolipolysis (Fat Freezing)

Some fat pockets ignore every diet and every workout. Cryolipolysis — fat freezing — destroys those fat cells permanently, without surgery, needles, or downtime.

How it works

Fat cells are more vulnerable to cold than skin, nerves, or muscle. The applicator draws the target area — belly, flanks, arms, inner thighs, or double chin — into controlled cooling for around 35–60 minutes. The chilled fat cells undergo natural cell death and are cleared by your body over the following weeks. Skin and surrounding tissue are unharmed.

The Dr. Thaj approach

Cryolipolysis is a contouring tool, not a weight-loss treatment — and honest patient selection is what makes results satisfying. Our doctors assess whether your concern is pinchable subcutaneous fat (which cryo treats) or visceral fat and skin laxity (which it does not), and build a plan only where it will genuinely show.

Results & maintenance

Each session typically reduces fat thickness in the treated area by around 20–25%. Change appears gradually over 8–12 weeks as the body clears the treated cells — the eliminated fat cells do not come back. Some areas benefit from a second session.

Who it’s for — and who it isn’t

The right candidate is at or near a stable weight with pinchable, stubborn fat pockets — lower belly, flanks (love handles), bra-line, upper arms, inner thighs, double chin. Cryolipolysis is not a weight-loss method: it does not treat visceral fat (the deep fat behind the abdominal wall), it will not change the scale meaningfully, and it is not suitable during pregnancy or with certain cold-sensitivity conditions, which we screen for. If your goal is overall weight reduction, we will say so honestly — contouring comes after.

Your session, step by step

The area is marked, a protective gel pad applied, and the applicator draws the tissue in with suction. The first 5–10 minutes feel intensely cold; the area then numbs, and most patients read or scroll through the 35–60 minute cycle. Afterwards the doctor massages the treated area for two minutes — a step shown to improve results. Expect temporary redness, numbness, or tingling for days to a few weeks. There is no bandage, no restriction; you drive yourself home.

Cryolipolysis vs liposuction

Liposuction removes more fat, in one session, surgically — with anaesthesia, downtime, and compression garments. Cryolipolysis removes less per session but needs no surgery, no needles, and no recovery time. For a defined pocket in a patient near their target weight, cryo often achieves the visible contour change that matters; for large-volume reduction, surgery remains the more appropriate tool — and we refer honestly when that is the case.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does fat freezing really work?

Yes — cryolipolysis is one of the most-studied non-surgical fat reduction methods, with a typical 20–25% fat-layer reduction per session in the treated area. It works on pinchable, stubborn fat pockets — not as overall weight loss.

What are the side effects of fat freezing?

Expected and temporary: redness, numbness, tingling, and tenderness in the treated area for days to a few weeks. A rare complication called paradoxical adipose hyperplasia — where treated fat enlarges instead of shrinking — is reported in well under 1% of cases and is treatable; we discuss it openly at consultation because informed consent means knowing the rare risks too.

How many areas can be treated in one visit?

Usually one to two areas per visit, depending on cycle times. Multiple pockets are sequenced across visits in your plan.

Will the fat come back after cryolipolysis?

The destroyed fat cells are permanently gone. Your remaining fat cells can still enlarge with significant weight gain, so results hold best with a stable lifestyle — which is also true of liposuction.

Does fat freezing tighten loose skin?

No — it reduces fat, not laxity. If loose skin is part of the picture, HIFU or radiofrequency treatments address that layer, and the two are often planned together. And if your goal is muscle definition rather than fat removal, CM Slim muscle sculpting is the complementary tool — many body plans combine both.

Is cryolipolysis painful?

You feel intense cold and suction for the first few minutes, then the area numbs. Temporary redness, numbness, or tenderness afterwards is normal and settles within days to weeks.

Is the fat loss permanent?

The destroyed fat cells are gone permanently. Remaining cells can still enlarge with significant weight gain, so results last best alongside a stable lifestyle.

When will I see results?

Gradually from about week 4, with the full result at 8–12 weeks — your body needs that time to clear the treated fat cells naturally.

What does cryolipolysis cost?

It depends on the areas treated and sessions needed. The doctor explains your full plan and its cost upfront at consultation. Cryolipolysis is available at select branches — confirm availability when booking.
