Keloid Treatment in Coimbatore

Post-surgical scars that keep growing, a vaccination mark on the shoulder that became a lump, burns from workshop or kitchen that healed thick and itchy: Coimbatore keloids arrive at the 100 Feet Road clinic in many forms, and most respond to the same disciplined course of intralesional injections, silicone and pressure. Our post on raised scars and keloids explains why they behave differently from ordinary scars.

A Scar That Overshoots, and How It Is Brought Back

Normal scars form, mature and fade over a year. A keloid keeps producing collagen long after the wound has closed, spreading beyond its edges into a smooth, firm, often itchy mass. Family history and darker skin raise the risk, and Coimbatore’s workshops, kitchens and surgeries supply the injuries: burns, cuts, caesarean and other operative scars, vaccination sites, and the chest and shoulder acne of young men.

Dr. Priyadharshini A and the Coimbatore team treat most keloids with intralesional injections, a measured dose of anti-inflammatory medicine placed into the scar tissue with a fine needle every three to four weeks. Over three to six sessions the keloid softens, flattens and stops itching. Silicone gel or sheets worn daily between sessions and pressure garments or earrings where the site allows hold the improvement.

The clinic also uses liquid nitrogen cryotherapy to shrink firm keloids before injection, which makes the medicine spread more evenly, and refers bulky or earlobe keloids to the Thalassery and Kannur flagships for surgical removal with injections on the table and in the weeks after. Excision without that follow-up is never done, because it is the surest way to grow a bigger keloid.

Preventing the next one is part of the plan. Acne on the chest and back is treated early so new scars do not form, any planned surgery is flagged to the surgeon so the incision can be protected, and fresh wounds in keloid-prone patients get silicone from the start. Keloids can recur, and patients are told so plainly.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions — Keloid Treatment in Coimbatore

Will my keloid come back after treatment?

It can, which is why treatment combines injections with silicone and pressure and why follow-up continues after the keloid has flattened. Most patients keep a flat, comfortable scar; a recurrence is simply retreated early.

How long does a course take?

Three to six injection sessions spaced three to four weeks apart, so roughly three to six months, with silicone worn daily throughout.

What does keloid treatment cost in Coimbatore?

The cost depends on how many keloids there are, their size and the number of sessions. It is explained at the consultation once the dermatologist has examined them.

I am planning surgery and I form keloids. What should I do?

Tell the surgeon and see us before the operation. The incision can be placed and closed to lower the risk, silicone started at once, and injections given early if the scar begins to thicken.

Is cryotherapy painful?

It causes a brief cold sting and some swelling for a day or two. It is used in short bursts to soften firm keloids so the injection works better, and numbing cream is applied first.
