Every Keloid Tool Under One Roof

Keloids are scars that overshoot: collagen keeps being deposited after a wound has healed, producing a firm, raised, itchy mass that spreads beyond the injury. Malabar skin is keloid-prone, and the founding clinic sees them on earlobes after piercing, on the chest and shoulders after acne, over the sternum and jaw, and along surgical scars, including caesarean scars that have thickened years later.

First-line treatment is a course of intralesional injections every three to four weeks, usually three to six sessions, which softens and flattens most keloids. Firm, dense keloids are frozen briefly with liquid nitrogen first so the medicine spreads evenly. Red, itchy, actively growing keloids are additionally treated with the pulsed dye laser, which the Thalassery flagship alone carries; it targets the blood vessels that feed the growth and settles the colour and itch.

Bulky keloids and most earlobe keloids are removed surgically under local anaesthesia, with injections given into the wound edges at the time of surgery and at intervals afterwards, and silicone and pressure earrings from the first week. That combination is what keeps the keloid from returning larger, and it is why surgery alone is never offered. Patients are referred here from Chennai, Coimbatore, Ooty and Pondicherry for this.

Dr. C.P. Thajudheen and Dr. Swathi P review each keloid for activity before choosing the sequence, photograph progress, and plan prevention: silicone on every new wound, no further piercings in prone ears, early acne control, and a note to any surgeon before a planned operation. Recurrence is possible and is caught early with follow-up.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions — Keloid Treatment in Thalassery

Can my earlobe keloid be removed?

Yes. Earlobe keloids are removed surgically under local anaesthesia at the founding clinic, with injections given at the time of surgery and afterwards, and a pressure earring worn for months. Done this way, most stay flat; done without the follow-up, they usually return larger.

What does the pulsed dye laser do for keloids?

It targets the blood vessels that feed a red, active keloid, reducing colour, itch and growth. It is used alongside injections for keloids that are still growing and is available only at the Thalassery flagship.

How much does keloid treatment cost in Thalassery?

It depends on the keloids and the sequence chosen: injections alone, injections with laser or cryotherapy, or surgery with injections. The plan and the cost are explained at the consultation.

How many sessions will I need?

Three to six injection sessions three to four weeks apart for most keloids; laser sessions, where used, run alongside. Surgical cases need the operation plus several follow-up injection visits over the following months.

Will the keloid come back?

It can, which is why every plan includes silicone, pressure and follow-up visits, and why surgery is always combined with injections. Recurrences caught early respond quickly.
