What is Ultherapy?

Ultherapy is an alternative to surgical or laser facelift. The treatment uses safe and time tested ultrasound energy to bypass the skin’s surface to treat the depths.

What is ultherapy good for?

The therapy stimulates collagen production. Collagen is the building block in our tissues that holds the skin in place. Its production is reduced as we age, and as a result, our skin begins to droop and sag.

This non-surgical skin tightening treatment counteracts signs of ageing like skin sagging and wrinkles on the face, neck, and chest and drooping of the brow area.

How does it work?

Ultherapy heats tissues and muscles under the skin’s surface, stimulating the regeneration of collagen, neocollagenesis. The therapist uses your collagen to stimulate and rebuild your skin’s building block.

The procedure is pretty simple.

The treatment area is measured, marked, and ultrasound gel is applied to your skin. As your dermatologist places a smooth handpiece on your skin, and an image of the tissue beneath is projected on a screen.

During the procedure, ultrasound emits small thermal bursts to stimulate the deep structural support layers of the skin without disturbing the skin’s surface.

Unlike lasers, which penetrates the skin from the outside–in, ultrasound treatments bypass the skin’s surface and focus ultrasonic energy on the dermal layer (the deep layer of your skin) collagen lives.

Collagen stimulation gradually lifts and tightens the skin. Your skin above the focus point and tissue below the focus point is protected.

The ultrasound treatment is best performed using light pain medication to increase comfort during the treatment.

Compared with plastic surgery, there is no cutting, no recovery, and all patients can resume their normal activities immediately.

How long does it take for ultherapy to show results?

Depending on your body’s ability to regenerate collagen, you’ll have noticeable results within a few days.

Even after several months after treatment, patients look refreshed and rejuvenated. As long as your body continues to create new collagen, you’ll look refreshed and rejuvenated.

However, the results may only last until the natural ageing process takes over again. Hence it’s advisable to repeat the treatment every 2-3 years to maintain the results.

How do one prepare for the therapy?

  • To promote better healing, stop smoking at least six weeks before your treatment.
  • Please avoid taking aspirin, other anti-inflammatory drugs, and herbal medications that might result in bleeding.
  • Avoid using skin products to decrease the risk of complications from treatment.
  • Keep yourself hydrated, as it is pretty crucial before and after the treatment for safe recovery.

Although non-surgical skin tightening is usually performed on an outpatient basis, please arrange to have someone drive you home after your treatment. Someone should stay with you at least for a day following your procedure.
